Using the calculators provided in Canvas, compute the following: -a t-test of the statistical significance of the differences in aggression between the treatment and control
Using the calculators provided in Canvas, compute the following:
-a t-test of the statistical significance of the differences in aggression between the treatment and control groups (use SPSS or the online calculator). These calculators will also compute the means and standard deviations of the aggression measure in the treatment and control groups
-a t-test of the statistical significance of the differences in self awareness (the manipulation check) between the treatment and control groups (use SPSS or the online calculator). These calculators will also compute the means and standard deviations of the measure in the treatment and control groups
-the effect sizes for the two measures, aggression and self awareness (use this calculator Cohen's dLinks to an external site., or the point estimate on the SPSS output)
-if either t is not significant, use the calculator in Canvas to compute the sample size needed to find t significant (p< .05) given the effect size you found with power = .80.
Upload a file with all the computations above.
Second, using the text entry box, explain why the t-test is the appropriate test to find out if the means of the treatment and control groups significantly differ (i.e., differ more than expected by chance). See pages 276-277, and page 491 of the text. Also, based on the t-test results, is the difference between the means significant or an error? If t is significant, is the difference between the means likely to be meaningful based on d?
