Our client, Tara, is an employee of a law firm. She has four scenarios that she would like us to review. Once we review each scenario, she wants us to summarize the rules of ethics that apply and finally advise her on the best course of action.

• Tara works from home and often brings client files and materials to review at home. She shares an office at home with her husband. While her husband is in the room, she often takes calls from clients and has an open file on the shared desk while speaking to the client.
• Tara's best friend was in a car accident, and the insurance company requested a statement. Tara's best friend calls her for advice and asks if she should make a statement to the insurance company.
• Tara sat in on a client meeting with her managing attorney. The client was going through a very continuous divorce and stated that if the wife was late picking up the children one more time, the client would kill her. The client seemed serious when making the statement.
• Tara was meeting with a client of the firm to assist with the client signing an affidavit. This affidavit was attached to a complaint the firm would file. The client stated only to Tara that part of the affidavit was untrue. The client told Tara she knew that she would not win the lawsuit unless she attested to this statement of fact. The client signed the affidavit.
