Using the notation as described in the PowerPoint slides and chapters 2 and 3 of the Hoffer textbook, prepare a conceptual model (ERD) that reflects the data and relationships of the following organization:
Pampered Pet Pawlor (PPP) is a popular dog grooming business that needs a database to better keep track of information about the grooming services they provide. They maintain records of pet owners who contact PPP seeking grooming services for their pets. For each pet owner, they capture the owners name, address, phone number, and how they prefer to receive notifications (call or text). PPP also keeps detailed information about each of its groomers, including their name, address, and any special skills they may have (breed-specific grooming, styling for show dogs, therapeutic baths for skin conditions, etc.). A groomer may have multiple special skills.
PPP wants to track that new groomers get training before they start working. The more experienced groomers train the new groomers. An experienced groomer may train many new groomers, and all groomers must be trained by an experienced groomer before they can be considered a groomer. Not all experienced groomers are required to train new groomers.
When a pet owner books a grooming session, the session number, date, time, type of grooming service required (wash only, wash and cut, or full-service), and any add-on services requested (nail trim, de- shedding treatment, dental hygiene, etc.) are recorded. For each session booked, at least one groomer must be assigned to perform the grooming services, although some sessions may require multiple groomers. PPP also needs to track the time each groomer actually begins working on a grooming session. Once the session is completed, the result of the grooming (satisfactory, additional services recommended, follow-up appointment scheduled, etc.) is noted.
Occasionally, a grooming session may necessitate veterinary services due to an unexpected health issue observed during grooming. The center keeps track of the name and license number for each veterinarian as well as a description of the vets specialty. If a vet is needed during a grooming session, the vet's license number, and the time the vet was called in are recorded. Sometimes, more than one vet may be called in if multiple health issues are observed. A vet may recommend another vet based upon their specialty. The center also tracks whether the vet recommended that the pet be taken to an animal hospital (Yes/No).
2. You must:
include all entities and attributes
include proper notation for entity unique identifier(s)
use proper notation for simple, composite, multi-valued, and derived attributes
include correct cardinality symbols using mandatory/optional symbols (show minimums/maximums)
convert any relationships into associative entities if they meet the requirements for such a conversion
list all assumptions that you make when creating the model
NOTE: Not all types of notation are necessarily required in your diagram.
