Vanessa is unemployed and experiences depression. She is on her own nearly all day, every day. She tells the support worker that she sleeps in and then goes out to buy take away food and cigarettes. She doesn't talk to anyone in the shops. She doesn't read newspapers or watch television and she will often lose track of time. She said she doesn't talk to the guy in the unit she lives in. She says the other person cooks food and uses the kitchen but Vanessa doesn't need to cook; she just eats take away. She used to like going to a bookshop at the shopping centre but a security guard accused her of stealing and told her to go away. Vanessa talks to her sister on the phone and she offers to come and visit but Vanessa discourages her. She is not talking to her mother because she stopped giving her extra money for cigarettes. Most of the time, Vanessa smokes cigarettes because she has nothing else to do to occupy her time.

Work with the client to discuss and identify: - their current status in the four wellbeing areas (social, emotional, physical and cultural/spiritual), with a focus on deficiencies, areas of risk and areas the client would like improved - strategies to strengthen overall wellbeing in all areas or address deficiencies in wellbeing - people who can be positive, encouraging and supportive of the client's treatment - resources and information to educate and support wellbeing improvement in all areas - services and programs relevant to the client that can meet their identified needs - current community participation and existing networks - triggers and challenges that impact emotional wellbeing and strategies to address them - Follow and promote practice standards and code of practice requirements by: - respecting the client's rights to choice - respecting cultural and spiritual practices and customs - demonstrating non-discriminatory practice - ensuring informed consent - establishing and maintaining professional boundaries - working collaboratively to complete client records, yet still maintaining privacy and confidentiality of client information - working safely at all times, including meeting duty of care obligations.
