VERY IMPORTANT!!!
The Discussion Question:
With reference to the CPSA (Canadian Professional Sales Association) "Sales InstituteCode of Ethics" ( Figure 3.5 in the Text):
1) Select a standard that you think could present a major challenge a Sales person ... be sure to explain why/how this standard could pose a challenge.
2) Citean event or actual business example where a salesperson or company did something that had, or will have, a negative outcome for them.
3) With respect to your answer in 2) above, describe:
a) thepotential short term benefits that likely motivated the action, and
b) and the potential long term detriments of the action.
My answer:
With reference to the CPSA Sales Institute Code of Ethics, I believe that standard no.1, namelyto preserve honesty and integrity in all of the work-related relationships and to gain their trust and respect on acontinuous basis (Manning etal., 2013, p.65),could present a major challenge for a salesperson, since he is probably facing many ethical dilemmas on a regular basis and it would require a lot of persistence and commitment to his moral principles to always keep his word, and to betruthful. Also, if asalesperson is faced with a very tempting and hard situation, he may intentionally or unintentionally make an unethical decision, which representsone way this standard could pose a challenge.
Moreover, a situation where a salespersondiscloses confidential information about the development of a new gadget with a representative of one of their competing firmscan be an instance of an action that will have very negative outcomes. The main potential short-term benefit thatlikely motivated the action of the salesperson could have been personal gain. To put it differently, the salesperson could have been tempted by the competitor's offer, as if he shared that confidential information, he could have gained something of value, such as an amount of money.
However, this action will have long-term detriments. This breach ofconfidence will have negative consequences to the salesperson as well as to the person or firm that received the confidential information and made theunethicaloffer. The salesperson will be fired, fines or jail time might beimposed, and the person who received the confidential information will lose the respect for the salesperson, as he "betrayed" his organization. Thecompeting company will also lose its integrity and respect by its customers orother organizations. Finally, the salesperson failed to act in an ethical manner and maintain a good reputation for his company.
Could you please if I have covered all of the points required correctly? Could I add something else to make it better or more specific? Is it well structured and written?
