The positive control contains the substance being tested for and goes through all the steps of the procedure. Therefore, a positive result is expected. A negative control does not contain the substance being tested for but still goes through all the steps of the procedure. A negative result is expected. Positive and negative controls are standard examples to which the experimental samples can be compared. Positive and negative controls are also used to test the accuracy and integrity of the experimental process. If a negative control sample yields a positive result, the experimental process is awed.
