Virginia has six schools on this list, and North Carolina has 5. A researcher hypothesizes that the colleges in Virgiilia and North Carolina have high four-year graduation rates. This project addresses these hypothesis by asking the following questions: (1) Is the average 4-year graduation rate for the Virginia colleges in the top 100 public Universities greater than the average of all the top 100 public colleges, and (2) Is the average 4-year graduation rate for the North Carolina colleges in the top 100 public Universities greater than the average of all the top 100 public colleges? (3) Finally, the researcher is interested in the comparison between VA and NC schools. Is the average 4-year graduation rate different for the VA and NC schools? SECTIONI Perform an appropriate liypothesis test for these three questions using a-.10. Show all important values you use as part of your test, including the null hypothesis, alternate hypothesis, test statistic value, and eitlien the rejection region and critical value or p- value depending on the method you choose to use. State the result of your test in a complete seilfence in context of the question. SECTION II Create 90% confidence intervals for the average 4-year graduation rate for the VA schools in the top 100 public Universities in 2003 and the NC schools in the top 100. Using these confidence intervals, what would you conclude about your three research questions? Why? SECTION III Did you find a different results using the confidence intervals than when you used hypothesis tests? If so, wliy do you think the results were different? If not, which method is better to answering your question? Does one method give you better information than the other? 22% 98 Texas Tech University TX 43% OH 99 Ohio University 39% 100 UC Riverside CA 22% WY University of Wyoming 69 25% 70 George Mason University VA 25% 71 University of Central Florida FL FL 72 25% Ohio State University OH 28% 73 Illinois State University IL 32% 74 University at Buffalo, The State University of New York NY 50% 75 Salisbury University MD 41% 76 University of Massachusetts Amherst MA VT 48% 77 University of Vermont SC 32% 78 College of Charleston 89 NY 30% Stony Brook University, State University of New York State University of New York at New Paltz 90 NY 21% 91 University of Maine ME 29% 92 University of New Hampshire NH 48% 93 University of Missouri.
