W2 Discussion Question 1: The Nervous System in Real Life

Purpose: Apply your new knowledge of the central and peripheral nervous system to the real world. How does your nervous system respond to events in life?

Post: Your nervous system is constantly responding to events in the real world. First, consider a situation or event that has happened to you recently. For example you may have been startled while driving or immediately felt hot when walking outside.

Briefly describe this event, and then consider which part(s) of your central and peripheral nervous system were involved in your response to the event.

Then, explain why you think the part(s) of the nervous system you identified were involved. Use Figure 3.20 on page 69 from your textbook (Brain & Behavior) to help orient yourself to the different subsections of the nervous system.
