DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
USING THE POSTMODERN PARADIGM:
Within a postmodern paradigm, what is "true" is not the issue, rather this paradigm focuses on how notions of what is truebecome perpetuated and/or challenged within society. Central here is the assumption that experiences do not pre-exist language, rather they are manufactured bylanguage (Hollway 1989, 36). As such, all knowledge and ideas about what is true are produced; they aresocial constructions. Qualitative research that is guided by a postmodern paradigm is aimed atdeconstructing language and in doing so, fostering insights that have the potential to lead tosocial change. As a guiding set of assumptions, a postmodern paradigm casts media as producing notions of what is true throughrepresentations, ortexts, that take various forms, such as language, visual images, and music.
