We found that there is no consensus as to is parole and probation officers should be armed or unarmed. This varies by agency, state, federal vs, state level, juvenile vs. adult supervision, etc. In this assignment, provide the following: 

 

1) List 5 advantages involved when investing parole / probation officers with the authority to carry firearms when on duty

2) List 5 disadvantages involved if parole / probation officers are given the authority to carry firearms when on duty.

3) Are there any overt community relations and/or public perception concern of parole / probation officers when armed? 

 4) Should only certain parole / probation officers be armed? If so, who and why?
