We have seen a rapid development over the last two Units: away from representation and into abstraction. Now that we have explored the Modern Art of the 20th century, we can return to the art movements to investigate the origins and inspirations from the 19th century. Instructions: For your final reflection paper, look through the art movements of Unit 6 and find elements of possible influences for the artwork in Unit 7. Do not write specifically write about the subject matter (i.e., Van Gogh painted portraits and so did Picasso). Instead, write about the formal elements of the artwork and look for connections (i.e., Van Gogh's painting techniques include open brushwork and bold colors, like Wassily Kandinsky). Use examples of art for each paragraph to support your thoughts. No need to include images in your paper: only artist names and titles of work are needed.
