We often describe our emotional reaction to social rejection as "pain". Does social rejection cause activity in areas of the rain that are known to be activated by physical pain? If so, we do experience social and physical pain in similar ways. Researchers first included and then deliberately excluded people from a social activity while they measured changes in brain activity. After each activity, the subjects completed questionnaires their levels of social distress. The data are attached below

Distress Brain
1.26 -0.045
1.85 -0.03
1.1 -0.016
2.5 -0.007
2.17 -0.007
2.67 0.027
2.01 0.031
2.18 0.035
2.58 0.037
2.75 0.043
2.75 0.074
3.33 0.087
3.65 0.165

The two variables are social distress score and change in brain activity.

High scores on the social distress scale indicate higher social distress.

High scores for changes in brain activity indicate more brain activity (ie more pain). Low scores (including negative scores) in changes in brain activity indicate less activity (ie less pain).

A. (1 point) Please fit the least squares regression line to the data. Assume that we wish to estimate change in brain activity from social distress score. Please write down the equation of your regression line (both left-hand side and right-hand side.)

B. (1 point) Please estimate the change in brain activity of a person whose social distress score is 2.75. please show all the work.

C. (1 point) Please interpret the slope of the line in (a)

D. (1 point) What percentage of the variation in change in brain activity is accounted for by social distress?

E. (1 point) What does the figure in (d) tell us about the accuracy of the estimate in (b)?

F. (1 point) Use the brain activity scores ONLY to find a 90% confidence interval for the average change in brain activity of all people subjected to being excluded.

G. (1 point) Interpret the interval in (f)

H. (3 points) Is the interval in (f) valid? Please check each of the conditions. For each condition, please be sure to say what you are doing so that your checks are properly justified.

I. (4 points) Suppose that a researcher suspects that the average social distress score of all people subjected to being excluded is more than 2.25 Please write down the Plan step of the significance test. Only the Plan step! Nothing else!

* I know these are a lot of sub-questions but this question addresses many STATS concepts that I am struggling with and I have an exam tomorrow so if you can please answer them precisely I will give a very good review if all answers are correct thanks. *
