Discussion Topic 1: Concerning the Physician-Patient Relationship: Our textbook states, "The physician-patient relationship is based on contract principles because the physician agrees to provide treatment in return for payment. Professional liability can arise if this contract is breached". Keeping this statement in mind, please review the case of Childs v. Weis (pages 177-78, 375-76), a Texas case from 1969, well before federal laws were enacted for emergency room patients. This case illustrates the contractual aspects of the doctorpatient relationship. Looking at the case, what do you believe motivated the various parties?
