As a HRD professional what must you consider when determining to outsource your training or develop and deliver the training in-house? There are a few things HRD professional must consider. According to the text, HRD professional must consider: cost, credentials, background, experience, philosophy, delivery methods, content, actual products, results, support and request for proposal. (pg. 148-9) Outsourcing is becoming a very popular option for many organizations; mainly because it's been known to reduce operating cost and increase employee's knowledge and skills. Week 3 Participation Question: Training outside of work No unread replies. No replies. Many organizations have been moving toward web training. An advantage is that employees can train at their leisure. That is, they can come home from work, eat dinner, relax, and then when everyone has gone to bed get on line and work their way through the training program. The advantage to the organization is that there is no opportunity lost, that is the employee is not using company time to train. Has your company moved to this training strategy? And if so, what are your thoughts on its success? If not, what are your thoughts on its advantages and disadvantages Approximately, two years ago, my organization began an e-learning training. This training is a mere amount of all the training that employee's must complete annually. I must say, that I appreciate the elearning training. The difference in my company's training strategy is that employee's still receive pay for the hours completed. On the other hand the company saves money on finding instructors to facilitate and time it losses by taking staff away from their duties for an entire eight to nine hours. I believe there are many advantages and disadvantages to this e-learning strategy. (Pg. 187) Advantages Provides more flexibility (employees are able to schedule on their own time) Eliminates Travel (mileage, hotel and conference expenses) Saves the company money Trainees are able to work at their own pace Disadvantage Due to the flexibility employees may fall behind Difference in learning style (one size may not fit all) Technology issues Lack of social interaction Reference Werner, J. It has always been a concern of mine, in regards to individuals and their learning abilities. (Technology) For example, this one training that is offered with my company annually. It takes approximately 9 hours to complete. These training covers a multitude of areas such as: safety, security, OSHA, HIPPA laws, scenarios, policy and procedure and the list goes on; I have observed that many staff just breeze through, and still have not obtain/retain the information needed to be productive at work. Establishing rapport is essential the text states two important reasons. It provides an opportunity to network and colleagues to get to know each other and the seeking of social acceptance in a group setting. (pg. 196) Rapport is very important, it establishes a mutual understand between trainee and trainer. The rapport process does a few things to the trainer and client relationship such as: creates an open communication, helps to develop or build trust amongst mutual parties it also encourages desired participation. When establishes a greater and more effective communication platform between the trainee and trainer or group. When there's an established common interested identified it makes the process of communication easier and most effective. As it relates to online course, some may find it a little difficult to establish rapports because the online learning is not face-to-face. I believe the first meet or introduction serves as our establishing rapport. We're able to see which classmates we share a common interest with such as: careers, family and interest etc. It looks like the majority is leaning to workplace safety. Questions: What is workplace safety? And what does this mean to you and the company? What security and privacy measures do you have on your job?
