Welcome to five years from today! You are now a licensed paralegal who has established your own business providing legal services within the paralegal scope of practice permitted by the Law Society of Ontario. Now that you have completed the Paralegal academic program and you have gained some practical experience in the field, you have a clearer understanding of the importance of ethics and professionalism. In Part 1 you will conduct legal research to identify and summarize an order and accompanying reasons published by the Law Society Tribunal involving Rule 4 of the Paralegal Rules of Conduct. In Part 2 you will draft an office memo establishing a strategy to implement in order to avoid a similar situation.

Conduct legal research to identify ONE (1) published order and accompanying reason of the Law Society Tribunal involving a paralegal where breach of Rule 4 of the Paralegal Rules of Conduct was in dispute. If additional rules were in dispute you will want to focus your summary and analysis on issues that are relevant to Rule 4 only. The decision you choose may be from the Hearing Division or the Appeal Division of the Law Society Tribunal.

In your summary describe the outcome with regard to the relevant Paralegal Rules of Conduct. Be sure to concisely articulate the relevant facts and issues in dispute, the applicable rules, and how the tribunal applied the rules to reach its conclusion.
