What additional responses do you have on the paragraphs below regarding characteristics found in all types of Nigerian money offers and why many people become victims of this type of fraud? See below.

Characteristics of all the types of Nigerian Money offers: This fraud letter appeals to the victim's sense of self, establishes credibility, and emphasizes urgency. First, the letter states that it is seeking a reliable and honest person which is why the person has reached out to the addressee. When the victim reads this in the first sentence, they are likely to immediately feel special. Coupled with the backstory of the death of Mr. Williams with no next of kin, this motivates the person to step into that role as an honest helper while fueling sympathy. Even if this does not spur the victim to act immediately, it helps to build a relationship to nurture future contact attempts. Also, the perpetrator identifies himself as an auditor for a bank that has business relationships with a mining corporation. By describing himself as someone with important responsibilities, the victim may feel that they can trust the person. After all, if a bank trusts him as a consultant, why shouldn't any individual? The letter also gives instructions requesting the victim's banking information immediately and that the process is simple. The victim may feel that helping will actually be quite simple. Just a simple response right away with this information and they will have resolved the problem.

The reason why people become victims of fraud: I think people become victims of this type of fraud because the large sum of money is appealing. For those people that have had personal or financial struggles, or are currently unfulfilled in life, the money could appear to be a solution. And even if the victim is skeptical, the reward can appear to outweigh any risk or doubt. Sort of like the choice to gamble. Also, for those who do not have financial stresses, helping someone like the perpetrator can satisfy their higher needs such as belonging and esteem.
