WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE POST BELOW:
The article on latimes.com "Volunteers who help kids in foster care are wanted more than ever during the pandemic" written by Nita Lelyveld discusses the hardship a little girl had at the start of her life. Her mother tested postive for drugs when she gave birth, lived with her father and was cared for by the grandmother. When the grandmother died she found herself with no one to care for her and was even not enrolled in Pre-K when old enough. At age 6, she was removed from the family by social workers and police and was placed in several foster homes. Such labor-intensive support is always in critically short supply. And it's needed now more than ever as the COVID-19 pandemic makes those who are most vulnerable more so. CASA stands for court-appointed special advocate. A CASA serves as a sworn officer of the court, whose duty is to represent and ardently advocate for one particular child's or young person's best interests. These Court Appointed Special Advocates help make sure the child is cared for properly and has all the required tools to help their wellbeing. With COVID-19 being present, its hard for these kids to have a chance at a education or even being taken care of due to distancing requirements. In the instance for this little girl, her Court Appointed Special Advocate was able to find her the proper tutoring and was even able to secure her an ipad to help do her school work and other social benefits.
