What do parents do, at a fast food restaurant, to encourage desirable behaviors and discourage undesirable behaviors? Are the principles of operant conditioning being used? For Paper 6, you need to visit any fast food restaurant (i.e., McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Taco Bell, or KFC, etc.) and observe the setting through the eyes of a psychological researcher. If this is not possible, find another opportunity to observe children interacting with their caregivers.

You should observe how parents use the principles of operant conditioning, how the principles are misused by parents, and instances when parents should use operant conditioning but don't. You can make your observations anywhere in the restaurant, but you are not able to use the drive-up window. Given the circumstances of the pandemic, you are permitted to use another observational setting. The important part is that you can watch children interacting with their caregivers without affecting the interaction in any way.

In Paper 6, start out by describing your setting. Where did you make the observations? What time were you in the setting? What were the ages and sexes of the children and parents you observed (please approximate).

Next, please define each of the following terms:

• Operant conditioning
• Positive reinforcement
• Negative reinforcement
• Punishment

After defining the terms, please briefly describe one observed example of positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, and punishment. You can use three different subjects or use one subject for more than one example. You only need one outstanding (clear, definite) example for each of the three principles you choose.

Describe the implications of such interactions on the target's personality. How do you think these parenting techniques will impact the children?
