We will study Descriptive Statistics this week. This is where we learn to use math calculations to describe data sets. Specifically, we will learn how to describe the "center" of a data set. This is important since data tends to have a central tendency where most data values lie near the middle. We will also learn how to describe the variation of a data set. This is important since variation is important to control in most situations. We will learn to calculate the mean, the median and the mode as ways to measure Central Tendency. We will use these to help describe the "shape" of a distribution. We will learn to use Variance and Standard Deviation to describe the variation of data. All of the above calculations will help us in future weeks. This means it is important to do well in Week 3 in order to fully understand our future work.
