What initiatives does the health sector need to take in the face of the following sustainability issues that it encounters? Sustainable development issues in the health sector The issues we are going to present to you have been designed on the basis of the global roadmap for sustainable development structured in 17 goals (SDGs). Here are our 5 points: Energy transition : Greenhouse gas emission assessments and energy audits have been mandatory since the Grenelle law. Hospitals do not have the necessary funding to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Waste reduction: Waste is very present in the medical environment because of single-use equipment. These products produce millions of tons of waste from infectious risk care activities (DASRI). On top of that, this equipment is produced abroad and therefore imported, thus eliminating jobs in France and emitting more CO2 during transport. Responsible purchasing This is a key to reducing the impact of the health sector. Water quality The presence of medicinal molecules in water has been known since the report of the Academy of Pharmacy in December 2008. Healthy products Endocrine disruptors and nanoparticles are present in many consumer products (source: ANSES). Hospitals must be an exemplary place where patients must be educated and environmental health prevention must be carried out.
