Research shows that Walmart's largest demographic is a married, middle aged, white, female of median or lower middle-class income who primarily shops for groceries and household value items. This makes sense considering the founding premise of the organization, that lower price pointed goods will generate overall higher revenue through increased sales volume. Walmart fundamentally offers customers value and convenience in its services and products.

It's pretty evident that Walmart caters to its main demographic, especially right now. Walk into any Walmart currently and grocery departments are all themed out with goods focused on sending kids back to school. Rollback cereals, value packs of prepacked chips and snacks that conveniently fit into lunchboxes, and bunkers full of Oscar Meyer Lunchables. Again, convenience at an affordable price.

An interesting thing that I read was how with the building of an omni-channel approach to sales, since a lot of digital commerce is coming from the "Gen Z" demographic, Walmart is pushing brands that cater to the age group; like hair care products and has geared social media advertising to specifically advertise new labels. That's a great example of how Walmart's overall merchandising strategy is rather diverse and meant to grow its appeal across multiple demographics as retail evolves.
