What is an example of bullying? A. getting sick B. public scolding C. giving someone you supervise a bad performance review D. investigating complaints The Need for Anti-Bullying Policies in the Workplace Employers should establish a formal written policy on workplace bullying that firmly states that the company does not approve of this behavior. Putting an official policy in place has definite benefits. First, it helps all workers understand the company's expectations up front, stopping bullying before it starts. Second, it clarifies what bullying is (for example, yelling and public scolding) as well what as what bullying is not (for example, giving someone you supervise a bad performance review). Third, knowing that a formal written policy against workplace bullying exists encourages employees who are being bullied to come forward. Many bullying victims simply quit their jobs. Others try to tough it out in silence while becoming emotionally and physically stressed. These employees fear that if they come forward they risk being accused of whining or lying about their situation. An anti-bullying policy will help the company keep productive, healthy employees; instead of quitting or getting sick, employees will trust the company to stand behind its policy and take action on their complaints. Of course, having an anti-bullying policy in place isn't enough. Employers need to act on it by investigating complaints rather than leaving the people involved to work it out for themselves. With a formal policy in place, employees will feel secure that the company has their back and the company will hold onto its positive reputation and its productivity because people won't be quitting over being bullied
