The company has few employees with Linux knowledge. You have been hired by the team to advice them not only on computer forensics, but on hardening and maintaining the Linux machines in their infrastructure. Before you even fill out your new hire paperwork, the network administrator informs you that the cloud vendor has informed the company of an IDS alert of brute force. Mercury USA, is the small company you work for that just hired you. You title is for Mercury USA Forensic Analyst and Linux Support Specialist. During Project one, you will act as the attacker and perform reconnaissance against the Mercury USA Linux Server. Then after discovering open ports, you will utilize a tool called Bruter to harvest the credentials from the Linux system running an FTP and SSH server. In the last project, you will be able to show evidence of how the attacker penetrated this Linux system and make recommendations to your employer (Mercury USA) on how to prevent subsequent attacks.
