What is your personal level of risk tolerance? Give a detailed example. What specifically would make you consider taking on more risk? How do you think this affects to the decisions you make in your occupation?

Risk tolerance is something I am not very comfortable in taking often. Skydiving, shark cages, and bungee jumping are a few of the adventures many would be thrilled to take on, but for me, the thrill does not outweigh the risk associated. While these are very extreme examples, this trait in avoiding risks is also demonstrated in other aspects of my life.

My conservative approach to taking risks in my personal life has translated to my professional life as well. Aspects such as choosing which degrees to pursue, and job opportunities to embrace have been of a few of the choices I have made that could be viewed as less risky. While many find it to be the boring route to take, I have found it to be quite the opposite. Choosing a career path that increased my chances of employment upon graduation (less risk) and merging one of those careers with my dream job has turned out to be a huge blessing!

For the most part I am fond of my analytical way of thinking that leads to less risky decisions; however, there are traits to being a risk taker I find admirable and hope to develop. Traits can include using my intuition to make decisions both personal and professional; saying yes to thrilling experiences (maybe not sky diving, shark cages, and bungee jumping) that will lead to great life experiences.
