What is your thoughts about the information below
What I learn from reading the two articles is that bullying has great impacts in 360 degrees to every aspect of our societies. Although bullying incidences may often happen or begin in or from school environments and may go on viral as cyberbullying. It involves everyone in our communities, starting from the perpetrators who have some mental disturbance concern issues from the immediate family. Then the troubled children who have no sense of empathy would pick on a victim who is weak and vulnerable to bullying. It is not only the victim who is disturbed by the bullying physically and mentally, but it also includes the side effects of the bystanders. Moreover, according to Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory, bullying has a domino effect impacts from a smallest unit like the mesosystem that creates kid's personalities which is influenced by the microsystem. Then it impacts exosystem such as schools, local communities, parents' workplaces, extended family members, community health services, and friends & neighborhood. Consequently, in the level of microsystem, bullying impacts a whole community unit as a country in term of implementing laws and public policies to rectify mental health issue as a national public health issue.
How can we prevent bullying from happening? Importantly, we should consider a holistic standpoint of bullying solution, because everyone significantly pays contribution to the issue. If we consider the cause of bullying logically it starts with the smallest unit of parents' nurture that builds children's personalities. Especially, when they reach the middle childhood stage, children supposed to develop a successful positive but realistic self-concept, pride in their accomplishment, cooperative participation with peers, and a sense of moral responsibility according to Erikson's psychological conflicts of industry and inferiority. Therefore, the constant Parents' involvement starting from the early childhood and ongoing to enter school age, would help prevent the disturbing distress mental health concerned personality in the trouble children who could possibly become involved in bullying incidents either as a perpetrator, victim, or bystander. It does not matter which role that children have gotten involved in, but each one would live with the bullying aftermath for the rest of their lives as per River et al 2009 bullying article and Cappadocia et al 2012 bullying and bystander intervention article. Parents' interaction and involvement could help children not only develop positive personalities, but also encourage academic achievement as well as participating with peers and community. Parents can monitor any disturbing characters and address them before the issue escalates.
Finally, schools have also played crucial roles in screening and taking precautions to prevent bullying problems. Implementing anti-bullying policies ensures that our schools would apply the protocol to identify bullying as soon as possible, so anyone who is involved such as the board of education, teachers, school psychologists, and social workers, can initiate an appropriate action to stop bullying. Because bullying creates more damage and losses than just the bullying equation; perpetrators, victims, and bystanders. But it affects our loved ones, family and friends, schools, local community, states, economy, country as well as our mental health.
