A newly established government agency focusing on renewable energy has just been set up in Tasmania. They have acquired a few water plants and mining sites with the hopes to mix renewable energy and innovative energy solutions to improve competition into the market. Only just established in late 2021, the client does not have clear visibility on their business processes and systems, which is a result of hiring contractors and having different staff members coming across from different sites and companies. It has been difficult for them to reach a consensus on this is the 'HeroEnergy way of doing things' rather than 'this is how XXX does it'. They only have a basic HR system set up to onboard people, but other than that they do not have clear visibility on their operational metrics, making it difficult for them to determine the costs. As a result, it is difficult for them to plan ahead and develop a strategy as their team is ever growing and changing. Being in Tasmania, it has been difficult to recruit and hire talented people that are based locally in the state. Certain teams have been frustrated with the lack of progress, and have developed their own reporting mechanisms that allow their users to use data analytics to drive decision making. There has been talks and discussions about how this causes issues as the system landscape is not integrated and there is no single source of truth. However the CEO and CFO has just approved and provided some funding to kick-start their digital transformation projects.
