The relationship examined is between a home-buyers race and the level of discrimination they face when buying a house. The independent variable in this case is the home buyers race and the dependent variable is the discrimination level. When testing the hypothesis of "non-white home buyers are more likely to experience racism when buying a home", the researchers used paired testing. Within this experiment, they controlled for whether the home was in an urban or suburban area and the economic status of the buyer. They did this by having an African American home buyer and a white buyer, both wanting a home in the same area and being of the same economic status work with a realtor. The results showed that the levels of discrimination were increased with the African American client versus the white buyer. The article does not cover what measures of association were used, so I unfortunately do not have that information
