what to write in response to a classmate stating the following: Henry McInnis, the CEO of a Texas-based hospice and home health entities was found guilty for violating the False Claims Act in 2021. He and the owner of the facility, Rodney Mesquias were falsely telling thousands of patients with diseases that had no cure that they had less than 6 months to live to get them to enroll in hospice programs that they normally would not qualify for. In this manner, they were increasing revenue under false pretenses. They were purposely enrolling patients into something they did not require in order to make money. The FCA states it is illegal to file a claim when you know it is false or fraudulent. Their scheme had submissions of over $150 million is fraudulent bills and they knew what they were doing. McInnis was sentenced to 15 years and prison and Mesquias was sentenced to 240 months in prison. They were charged with multiple things to include conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and obstruction of justice. I agree with the ruling of the case. These gentleman running a healthcare organization where people are supposed to feel safe and looked after, took advantage of people when they were most vulnerable
