3. To ensure employee safety in the workplace, Congress passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. The Act is administrated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) investigates safety and health violations in the workplace and, through the justice department, imposes fines and/or injunctions on companies that violate the Act.
