On your first trip there, you discover that female candidates for cleaning staff are required to undergo a pregnancy test. Apparently, this is legal or at least nobody seems to mind. You ask the local manager if the test is not an intrusion into privacy and whether

it might lead some women to have an abortion just to get one of the scarce jobs going on the island. The manager shrugs and tells you that the tests are an important part of the screening process for new hires. And as for what they might do, that is a personal matter for them, not my problem, he says. How do you deal with this situation?

You work for a multinational that intends to build a shipyard in a developing country in Africa. As there is high unemployment, the local government welcomes the jobs and business opportunities this venture brings. However, a significant segment of the local population, especially those living in the neighborhood close to where the shipyard is going to be built, are worried about the environmental impact, the noise and other distur- bances to their way of life. There are no legal prohibitions regarding the project and finding a new site wont be easy. What is the best course of action?
