What year were you born?
Do you know of any important events that occurred around the time you were born? Use citations if you "google" that information, please use proper citations.
What important events do you remember as having affected you and your peers during your school years? For example, assassinations, space exploration, political events, wars, natural disasters, etc. Describe how these events influenced your development and how it may have made your development different from a different generation.
When you were in High School, what was the attitude that most of your peers had towards:
- Mothers who worked outside of the home.
- Father's role in child-rearing.
- People of other ethnic groups.
- Senior Citizens.
- Couples without children.
- Only children.
- Disabled students and peers.
- Birth Control.
- Sex.
- Technology (by the way, the last generation did not invent technology :).
Take these same questions and conduct an interview with someone from a different cohort group.
Please address normative history graded influences, normative age-graded influences, normative sociocultural influences and nonnormative life events.
- Explain their new and better understanding of generational/cohort differences between various people.
- Examine their own attitudes and behaviors in terms of your cohort group.
- Discuss the normative and non-normative influences in both your life and the life of your interviewee in terms of how it shaped the development of each person.
To-do.
- Find a friend or relative that is in a different cohort group that you would like to interview.
- Tell us a bit this person (age, relation, etc.).
- Begin by answering the list of questions provided for yourself (make notes of answers)
- Then discuss all the interview questions with the interviewee from a different cohort group (make note of their answers).
- Compare and contrast the two cohort groups, and specifically the two individuals interviewed in terms of the normative and non-normative influences mentioned above. This analysis is the most important part of the journal.
- Please use complete sentences.
- Please tell us something about your interviewee (age, where they live, etc.)
