I would first say that research is rewarding and worthwhile for both graduate and undergraduate research. In graduate research I feel that you're able to contribute more to choosing your research topic. With this you are expected to provide more details. Especially if you are working on a thesis. As you read and research you learn to work more independently on projects and are mentored by the professor. Researching in undergrad, usually have a more clearly defined topic and the methods will usually be specified by your professor. I believe it is important to learn about the open questions of your field and the direction it is heading. Likewise, exploring questions without any answers encourages you to become a more inquisitive person who challenges ideas and beliefs, and forms opinions based on evidence. While in undergrad, I took a social sciences course. Which required me doing lots of research. In this course the research topic are humans with lots of variation that is hard to measure and hard to account for. As a result, the outcomes of seemingly identical experiments can have very different results which confounds the experimenters
