When it comes to difficult situations, how do you handle it? It can be harsh to decide what has a positive outcome: however, I believe I would make the right decision if I were Neville in this situation. In Shipping the Part, a top manufacturing manager at a satellite telecommunications company named Maxine Hong, came to Neville to discuss an issue about a product part from the company. Neville is the one who certifies quality to be approved. The situation is about the part having a mark on it, but it doesnt affect its performance according to Hong. He tells Neville that the customer wont mind and the cost to fix them is seventy-five thousand dollars. Neville is getting peer pressure from Hong to just sign it off to go past this situation about the damaged item. Hong also believes it was better to get this situated before shipping. When it comes to difficult situations like this, it can be hard to make the right decision.Core self-evaluation, cognitive style, and personal values take the roles of challenges in this situation. These topics relate to chapter one on the topic of developing self-awareness. Neville needs to decide whats good for him and for his job. Using cognitive style is going to help him visualize or reflect on the decision. Core self-evaluation will allow him to know his worth of being a great person for not only the company but for his life as well. If I were the one in charge of quality control, I would believe calling the customer would be the best option for this situation. I would discuss the issue about the part and provide my evidence that the part is still functional. I will give the customer the option of giving them a discount or refunding them from our end of the deal. The other options had good points but werent as strong as this choice. Shipping the part to the customer without notifying them about the mark wouldve shown no value to the company. It shows the company doesnt make sure that the customers are getting the best quality materials. Refusing to ship the part wouldve not been a great option because the part wasnt electronically damaged and what if the customer needed the part as soon as possible? One time I was working as a shipper for the company and my co-worker did not care if items were damaged and our instructions were to not ship damaged items. My co-worker came across a damaged item and he didnt want to notify the manager because he didnt care. I didnt want to start problems with the person, but it would reflect on both of us if we didnt report it since we were in the same department. It would be a process to report it and he was always in a bad mood showing bad character traits. I ended up deciding to notify the manager because I felt like I had to do what was right for me. I wanted to have the personal value of having a good work ethic. The way how I use personal values to make my decisions, Neville needs to not forget about personal values to make decisions. In conclusion, calling the customer to discuss some issues within a product is the best option for these situations because it shows who you are as a person. There will be times in our personal life when we need to make logical choices in rough scenarios. These situations go for our work lives as well.
