My manager from my job in high school was not the greatest relationally intelligent individual. He could not connect with individuals and gain buy-in from those he led. The manager I had when I started at the Bank was the polar opposite. She was empathetic, understanding, and easy to relate to, and she was very talented at gaining buy-in from others. Most managers I have had or leaders I have watched from a distance share these characteristics. Those characteristics of empathy, grit, relatability, and drive will, in a sense, "lead the charge" and can drive people to care about their work.
