When you double$-$click a file, Windows should automatically open it$.$ If it cannot it give a prompt asking you which program you want to use to open the file. If you do not see the correct program, then

select Microsoft Word as the default

close the dialogue box and double$-$click the file again

press Ctrl $+$ F to find the correct program

you may need to purchase and download the appropriate program
