HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) - An extension for Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) used for secure communication encrypted using (TLS) Transport Layer Security. HTTPS is used to secure a private online experience and protect with integrity and confidentiality. It is used mainly with public networks such as Wi-Fi. This is what makes online banking and shopping possible. It is used to protect those using it from unwanted eavesdroppers.

Email Protocols

POP3 (Post Office Protocol) - The current version of the Post Office Protocol (POP). The number three stand for the version which is the latest and most widely used. Another protocol for retrieving emails on a single device. This shall be used when you want emails to be accessible when offline. on a single device.

IMAP (Internet Access Messaging Protocol) - An Internet standard protocol used by e-mail clients to retrieve e-mail messages from a mail server. Since it deals with messages, you would be unable to receive emails with IMAP. Upon a successful receipt of the SMTP transmission (received by a 250 OK response code) then the recipients email client will fetch the message using IMAP and place it in the inbox for the recipient to access. STMP & IMAP work together. IMAP is a more powerful method when receiving messages on multiple devices, therefore you would use it to receive messages.

SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) An Internet standard for electronic mail (email) transmission. With SMTP you are sending, replying, or forwarding messages from a mail client to an email server that is receiving it. SMTP is about sending emails this would be the open you use when "sending."
