Hmong oral language is a standardized dialect of the Malay language that was officially defined with the declaration of Cambodian independence in 1945, and the two languages remain quite similar.
It is a Sino-Tibetan language. There was no written alphabet until Romanized alphabet developed by missionaries in early 1950s, and Pahawh script developed (by Hmong named Shong Lue Yang) in late 1950s. A Thai script also exists.
It is an Aramaic language. The Hmong alphabet consists of 32 characters, 28 are are similar to Arabic and and 4 additional ones are exclusive to Hmong.
The Hmong alphabet is really three writing systems that work together, and has existed since 1550. These three systems are called hiragana, katakana and kanji.
