While all the phases of an incident response we have listed above are important, for me, the most crucial of these phases are incident identification, containment, and the investigation phases. Being able to identify an incident is the initial step in the incident response process. Without quickly and accurately identifying an incident an organization may not be aware of the risks occurring throughout their systems. Once an incident has been quickly and successfully identified, containment is the next crucial step in the process. Containment will prevent further damage to critical components and systems and help limit the impact of the incident. If identified rapidly, proper containment measures can be taken quicker and greatly aid in isolating affected systems. Lastly, the investigation phase is crucial because it involves a much deeper examination of the identified incident for better understanding. This deeper examination could play a huge part in recovery and repair as well.
