While describing the two basic street distribution models: freelance and business. Is there anything to add to this post?
Freelance drug distribution entails an individual who controls both the flow of drugs and money which is the preferred method of nearly all distributors (Johnson, 2003). However, freelance cooperatives began to form as organized competitors forced individual freelancers out of more lucrative locations and police arrested others. Members of cooperative shared territories through informal agreements but each member maintained control of their cash and drugs. Additionally, freelancers would often consume their own products before they were sold.
Business drug distribution occurs when one or more persons controls the activities of others, similar to how managers have employees. However, direct-to-retail constitutes a minority of business distribution. Business distribution is built on hierarchies where top distributors pay employees to hire and manage lower-level retail sellers (Johnson, 2003).
