While the CPF Board regulates the CFP designation, there are millions of people out there calling themselves "financial planners" or "financial advisors". Many of these people do not have any training or credentials to back that up...they have just hung a shingle on their own or with a big wirehouse and have little to no expertise. How is the consumer to sort through all of these different "posers" to find a real financial planner? How do advisors differentiate themselves to help the process? What can be done to improve the situation for the consumer? If you try to practice law without a law degree, you can get in real trouble. Financial planning...not so much. Thoughts?
