While toxic and unethical leaders share some characteristics that degrade the integrity and structure of an organization, there are distinct differences that help to differentiate the two. Wolor et al. (2022) describes how toxic leaders can significantly reduce the employee morale of an organization in many ways such as discrimination and creating unnecessary stress in the work environment, much like an unethical leader. I feel a divergence of traits sits in how a toxic leader manages their employees. Toxic leaders tend to micromanage their employees to no end and place extreme emphasis on the organization's hierarchy (Wolor et al., 2022). Whereas on the other hand, unethical leaders make decisions that may be illegal or cause harm to the employees or organization (Mitchell et al., 2022). While toxic and unethical leaders can cause turmoil and distress within an organization, each type of leader comes with their own character traits that can negatively impact the employees and the organization as a whole
