  1. While working on MSG a special duty assignment I have seen a lot of higher up NCO (non-commissioned officers) come onto the program with almost no knowledge and experience with their new job. For some senior Sergeants and Corporals, it can be a difficult transition, especially when they now must ask a junior what they need to do and how to do it. However, there was one Sergeant who had an especially difficult time. He refused to ask for help and learn from Marines who were lower in rank than him. This led to daily mistakes in our standard operating procedures, causing problems for the entire Marine detachment and even some Embassy personnel. Finally, our detachment commander had a discussion with him. He let the Sgt know that if he did not adapt and have an open mind about learning from subordinates then he would be recommended to be relieved from the special duty assignment. In the end the Sergeant got out of his closed mindedness and showed humility by admitting that he needed help in learning the ropes of the new job. Why would this happen in the civilian workforce?
