Parents teach their young how to 'watch their back' and be cautious; mistakes are often deadly. Somehow we have assimilated similar programming (which may explain why we are still here) but... we have 'other' programming. At work, we have choices; 1. Remain apart from your co-workers and work alone? 2. Engage only as required to acquire what you need to stay employed? 3. Immerse yourself daily in all things and 'live to work'? 4. Something else??? How you choose to interact with others at work will result in costs and benefits. Choose carefully. Your choices will largely determine your perceived value and set the stage for how effective you will be.
