Within healthcare setting, drug diversion goes underreported. When I worked in the outpatient setting, we had technology that would keep track of medication that nurses would administer and waste. Medications were located in a cart, a Pyxis machine, and readily available for the nurses and doctors to access. When wasting a product, depending on the drug schedule, the Pyxis would prompt for a witness. This is one way that we can leverage technology for patient safety and deterring misuse. AI is also entering the field with ways to monitor for patient privacy. This technology would also be able to identify unusual patterns and outliers for drug dispensing events.
If unusual conduct goes unnoticed who's responsibility do you think that should be?
