1. Within your "BA 315 Datasets" folder, create another folder called, "TEDx"
2. Download the following Excel dataset and save it in the "TEDx" folder: TEDx DatasetLinks to an external site.
3. Download the following Field Key Descriptions file and save it in the "TEDx" folder: TEDx Field Key DescriptionsLinks to an external site.
4. Load the TEDx data into the Power BI Query Editor so that you can begin wrangling the data
5. Save your pbix file and name it: Firstname_Lastname_TEDx (i.e., Tim_Smith_TEDx)
6. Watch and apply this video: Convert a Unix date to a Standard dateLinks to an external site.
7. Watch and apply this video: TEDx Data WranglingLinks to an external site.
8. Finish cleaning and wrangling the remainder of this dataset in the Query Editor. Note - You may or may not need to wrangle the "Related Talks" field. You decide, based upon how important you think the data in this is to your overall story and data analysis. In the past, some students used this column to help build their story while others didn't.
9. Make sure that the datatype for each column is correct
10. When you are in Power BI Desktop, look at the "url" field to the right in the Fields pane. Click on that field and define its data type to be "Text" and its data category to be "Web URL." This data category type will allow you to click on any url link in this field and have it automatically take you to the TEDx talk when you add the field to a visual. If you do not get it the first time, re-read these instructions slowly and follow them exactly.
11. Insert a "comment" box on the last page of your pbix file. In that box, state the problem you are trying to solve and the questions you are trying to answer. Use your problem definition and questions you came up with to guide you in your analysis.
12. Begin your data analysis with the understanding that this effort will be mostly self-directed by you. If you need to find and watch videos to help you understand how to get the job done, then do what is needed to deliver. Be resourceful (in honest ways). Work in teams and help each other learn the BI tool. Think about the process of getting insights. Ask smart, inspired questions. Refer to the Framework document. Include the Lord in this process and ask for His help. You should now be at a point where the pieces should be fitting together. The overall goal is to learn how to learn!
13. Once you have created your visuals and completed much of your data analysis, on each page within your TEDx model, insert a "Text box" off to the side or below the visuals. In each text box, describe the pattern, trend, or insight gleaned from the visual(s) on that page.
14. On your first page of your TEDx model, create a new page and name it "Summary." On this page, summarize the key data-driven action oriented insights you recommend. Make this summary page looks professional by using readable font sizes, title if needed, and bullet points if needed. This summary page should bring all your granular page-specific insights together into a few key overall strategic action items that you recommend. If you want to go the extra mile, consider creating navigation buttons on the Summary page that takes you to other pages that have supporting visuals.
15. Name your last sheet that you created in Question 11 "Questions." On this sheet, properly format the initial problem that you wanted to solve and the corresponding questions you wanted to answer. Then, indicate what questions you were able to answer and what questions you couldn't answer. You may want to indicate additional questions you were able to answer that went beyond your initial questions. By the time you complete the "questions" part of the assignment, you should have completed steps 1 through 5 in the Framework document. The remaining points in the Framework document will be discussed later in the semester.
16. Submit the "bpix" file you created for this project using the following format: Firstname_Lastname_TEDx (i.e., Tim_Smith_TEDx) in this folder: Assignment 3f - Submit TEDx project
