In your personal and professional life, you will often deal with percentages, ratios, and rates. For example, you may need to calculate sales tax or a discount, or maybe you want to figure out your batting average.

Discuss the following with the class:

• You may notice that when performing calculations with percentages, we never use the actual percentage, but rather its decimal equivalent. Why do we have percentages if we never use them?
