Working with difficult people. Jennifer newly join into Finance Department in Flying and Nett Company as a new head of department. During her orientation and first official meeting with the Director of Finance, Mr Lays, she was told that the ex-department head, Ms Coke has resign due to inner conflict with the staff causing low productivity and low morale. Although Ms Lim has resigned, but the internal conflict continue as trust among the colleagues is gone. Hence, with Jennifer joining the team, Mr Lays hope that Jennifer would be able to bring harmony back to the department. Within a month of observation, Jennifer realizes that among her 6 staffs all of them has their own island and are not openly communicate with each other. Few individuals has caught Jennifer attention: Sprite, a 43 years old lady who like to organize party by collecting money among the colleague. In a short period of 1 month, she has organized at least 3 small parties. Sometimes she even organizes the party without the consent of every individual in the department and collect the money after. This has create dissatisfaction among the staffs. Jennifer also learn that Sprite gain profit from organizing the party event in the department, because her husband own a small catering business. This information was fed to Jennifer by another of her staff; Pepsi, where Pepsi has constantly feeding Jennifer a lot of information in regards of the other staffs in the department including their work productivity and private life, in both positive and negative manner.
To make the matter worst, current department role description is unclear resulting work is not complete, lack of information and routine work take time to finish and unable to meet KPI time frame. In order to allow the team to communicate better, a weekly meeting has been called to find solution and better relationship. However, Jennifer found it difficult to find solution as one of her staff; Mountain Dew, like to criticize every solution suggest by others which hinders the meeting objectives and further lower team morale. Jennifer feel extremely difficult in dealing with her staff, as her friend, critically discuss and identify the above case study on the following to advice Jennifer
