The importance of project management has increased in recent years due to an increase in complex projects and a shortage of staff. There are three differences between organizations that are good at project management and those that are not: sponsorship, scope management, and organizational maturity. The first is sponsorship, which means that the top management and business managers who invested in the project, i.e., the sponsors, have a strong relationship with the project manager and project team. The second point, scope management, refers to clearly defining the scope of the project and making decisions with the sponsor when changing the scope. The third point, maturity, indicates how well the organization can handle project management. Training a small number of project managers and leaders is not enough to enhance the organizational capability. All three of the points mentioned above are problems that cannot be solved without the involvement of top management.
