Van Duzer explains that one of the consequences of the Fall on the nature of work is that people are working harder at a faster pace, not being able to take a pause, under the influence of increasing productivity and efficiency. Yet God calls for Sabbath, as He has rested on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2-3). How can we reconcile these two seemingly opposing approaches to work? If we were to work at a place where productivity and efficiency is expected (and many times demanded), how can we actually live an authentic life?
