You are to create a business writing portfolio containing 2 (two) original business writing samples (an email and a memo) reflected in your learning during your time so far in this course. You are submitting ONE portfolio, NOT two individual pieces. Submit both the email and the memo in one Word doc but on separate pages. Please ensure you clearly number or title each writing sample. 1. Compose an Email: Write a fun and friendly communication to students, staff and faculty regarding a Volleyball Team BBQ/Fundraiser. The college volleyball team will be holding a welcome back barbecue each day from noon till 2pm between September 27 to Oct 1 in the cafeteria at Newnham Campus. Food, drinks and games will be available. Games are free but food and drinks will be priced modestly as a fundraiser to support the team's travel to the provincial championships in Thunder Bay. You need to get the word out to students, staff and faculty by composing an email. 2. Compose a Memo: Compose a memo of a team protocol addressed to a hypothetical team that you are leading according to the following scenario. Imagine you are the leader of a team of 4 people working on a project at your workplace. Your team has to put together a report and a powerpoint presentation that will be delivered at a conference. Your team will be meeting on a weekly basis to go over distribution of duties and give each other updates on work being done as the project proceeds. Write a memo to the team about what the protocol is for your team. The purpose of this team protocol is to provide members with a framework for working together and developing ground rules and goals for the team. There should be clear ideas about how you will collaborate and discuss the team report and presentation. 2. There should be clear ideas about how you will collaborate and discuss the team report and presentation. Some guidelines/questions to consider when creating the team protocol are: What is the purpose of your group? How will you work together? What is the work effort needed from each member? What timelines are required in order that the group functions effectively? Please note: Your work will be scored on the following items: relevant subject line; an opening that reveals the main idea immediately; body copy that provides more information about the reason for writing; closing that indicates a deadline or next action if applicable; accuracy of grammar, spelling, punctuation; overall format; complete signature block for the email.
